Come to think of IT…

Not too shocking video report of a website selling ebay and paypal accounts.

This is not the first time things such as this have been found. I also found one which sells “free stolen paypal accounts”

So let this serve as a lesson;

No matter what the feedback, no matter how long a seller or buyer has been registered, no matter the paypal protection banner…

None of that means a single thing. The entire ebay paypal universe is supersaturated with fraud.

From the very top of the executive level to the bottom fences, thieves and flunkies whom stock the site with their wares.

Everything that can be gamed, is being gamed.

This channel appears to be operated by Doc of ebaymotorssuck.com - a great consumer advocate who has educated and saved would-be scam victims untold amounts of money and undue grief, as well as having exposed and documented a great deal of fraud on ebay, ebaymotors, and paypal.

Truly, no one else out there even comes close to Doc’s level.

I should mention that there is also an ebaymotorssucks channel on youtube as well. It’s been there quite some time, but now Doc is geared up with some new screenrecording sw. and is now taking consumer awareness education/infotainment/edutainment to Web 2.0.* in a major way.

One last thing I want to convey;

This is neither designed or intended to be advertising for the site selling the accounts. I urge and advise folks to NOT visit the site(s) and NOT to conduct business there.

If you must use ebay and paypal, register your own legit account(s) and follow the rules (which truthfully, I do NOT recommend either, all things given)

Watch this video. This person, (our friend, crazeenydriver) has stuck with ebay and tried to make his situation work within the changes. He has also posted a lot of very popular and helpful videos for those still there.

ebaY policies and bureaucracy are nothing but one big clusterbleep. You can hear the stress in his voice as he relates a typical ebaY customer service usage experience.

When ebaY starts alienating people like this, well it can’t be a good thing imo.

I won’t even start into the entire outsourcing thing, nor the snatching of the FVFs, but those situations also speak volumes.

New York (April 30, 2009) — EBay sellers who filed a putative antitrust class action against the online auction company have claimed the company is blocking access to electronically stored documents by refusing to use certain search terms in querying databases.

The plaintiffs filed a motion Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California asking the judge to order eBay to apply the plaintiff’s proposed search terms…

Hilarious!

The World’s Biggest Online Crime Ring and Counterfeit Capital of the World again shows their hypocritical nature and demonstrates the fact that they seem to believe they are above the law.

In the article regarding the efencing and Organized Retail Crime bills now in Congress, and a Dog and Pony Show-like PR stunt they pulled in our nation’s Capitol, at the computerworld site:

The problem is that ebay profits from both ends. They do little to nothing to ensure goods on their site are not stolen, or even register the user. Even Paypal user agreements offers NO Guarantee of the true ID of your trading partner(s)

It is a well known fact that they depend almost solely on their “community”, yet ignore the reports, even have been know to stonewall law enforcement.

As long as ebaY is deriving profits, they are in fact and in practice a partner in crime. Strike that, ebay is an enabler and the hub of crime, THE major player in a massive, worldwide continuing criminal enterprise. A pimp, a fence, a gangster, a shiny shoed, silvery-tongued thug.

As we all know, ebay fuels a huge illegal industry, anywhere in the neighborhood of $30-35 Billion per year. All consumers are suffering due to this.

What does ebaY do with their share of all the dirty money? I know I cannot be the only one wondering.

On any given day there is report after report after report of stolen, counterfeit, fenced goods etc. A couple notable recent events were the dodo_6666 copy ink efence affair and the ebay LEGO Dr. Phil Show Bandits

There has never been a situation which cried out for regulation as much as this one does. For ebay to even dream of resisting this is a complete, and very telling farce.

Please contact your legislators and insist that these bills get passed. Again, it is time for the laws to catch up with the 21st century. The general public would not allow this outrageous level of crime to be supported/profited from by any pawn shop, flea market, rummage sale etc. Why should we allow it in cyberspace? IT is high time to rein these clowns in and make them accountable for the situation they have helped to create by virtue of their very own inactions and irresponsibilty.

Excellent paper/blog post by Richard Bilderberg.

This appears to be a follow-up to THE RISE AND FALL OF THE eBay REICH.
If you have not read that yet, please download and read it.

This is a long, in-depth article, well written and researched. Much like it’s predecessor, it should be considered a MUST READ for all ebay users or prospective ebay users.

Since this is so lengthy, nor am I trying to steal anyone’s thunder, I shall post here only the very first couple paragraphs:

Now for the comedy part. LOL! As I looked for the exact URL of this Redux article, I got only one search result. That was on the ebaY Community Forums of all places. Thread title: “Meg Whitman on Business Culture“ But not surprisingly, the thread had been deleted even though it appeared to contain no violations, as I was lucky enough to find the cached page. Here that is preserved as a png document should anyone care to read that themselves.

Every time we see something like the above screencaptures illustrate, it adds even more weight to papers such as Redux – THE END of eBay (2009)

More Than Half of Ex-Employees Admit to Stealing Company Data According to New Study

New study released by Symantec has some not too surprising results.

Employees who lost or left a job in 2008, which revealed 59 percent of ex-employees admit to stealing confidential company information, such as customer contact lists.
Further findings;

– 53 percent of respondents downloaded information onto a CD or DVD, 42 percent onto a USB drive and 38 percent sent attachments to a personal e-mail account.
– 79 percent of respondents took data without an employer’s permission.
– 82 percent of respondents said their employers did not perform an audit or review of paper or electronic documents before the respondent left his/her job.
– 24 percent of respondents had access to their employer’s computer system or network after their departure from the company.

As this relates to ebay and PayPal, well there was that ugly little incident around March last year. It appeared to me that folks at Youtube and ebay forums were trying very hard to keep that info from becoming known, as any comments about it at youtube were instantly marked as spam, and/or comments at ebay forums were met with the usual denials by the very same hardcore, tired old group of suspected “paid word of mouth advertisers”, AKA shills on the Paypal forum.

If you visit this video and expand the (more info) area, you will see more screencaptures and links with some pretty strong evidence that hackers, phishers, scammers etc are only some of the things you need to be concerned about when using the Paypal service. Not to mention the fact that there very likely is a network to help cover-up all the misdeeds and misbehavior. Weasels in, and/or in charge of the henhouse?

Very interesting article by Bruce Schneier in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal.

Reminds me of a so-called “Glitch” which occurred with PayPal not long ago and was rumoured to have been the result of malicious coding by a disgruntled employee facing layoff.

Thwarting an Internal Hacker

Rajendrasinh Makwana was a UNIX contractor for Fannie Mae. On Oct. 24, he was fired. Before he left, he slipped a logic bomb into the organization’s network. The bomb would have “detonated” on Jan. 31. It was programmed to disable access to the server on which it was running, block any network monitoring software, systematically and irretrievably erase everything –and then replicate itself on all 4,000 Fannie Mae servers. Court papers claim the damage would have been in the millions of dollars, a number that seems low. Fannie Mae would have been shut down for at least a week.

Luckily –and it does seem it was pure luck – another programmer discovered the script a week later, and disabled it.

Insiders are a perennial problem. They have access, and they’re known by the system. They know how the system and its security works, and its weak points. They have opportunity. Bank heists, casino thefts, large-scale corporate fraud, train robberies: many of the most impressive criminal attacks involve insiders. And, like Makwana’s attempt at revenge, these insiders can have pretty intense motives – motives that can only intensify as the economy continues to suffer and layoffs increase.

Insiders are especially pernicious attackers because they’re trusted. They have access because they’re supposed to have access. They have opportunity, and an understanding of the system, because they use it – or they designed, built, or installed it. They’re already inside the security system, making them much harder to defend against.
