Word of ebaY’s big plan to “gamify” auctions has finally been noticed by the ebaY community and ebaY-centric blogs.

Both at the ebaY community forums and auctionbytes blog the reactions seem incredulous.

Of course, the ebaY forums policy was strictly See no Evil, Hear no Evil, Speak no Evil, as the  thread topics were deleted, perhaps due to the criticism which would have been unleashed?

I’m not so sure that playing games in a world where feedback is one-sided, 5 star rating systems are in practice binary pass/fail, where anything less than 5 is fail, and where you are required to lie to play the game, or where there is an epidemic of fake and stealth ID’s and more things are broken than work, is going to be very appealing?

Then there’s also another creepy element mentioned: facial recognition. That’s a big Orwellian skin-crawling fail in it’s self.

ebaY, Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200.00 …

Who could have ever imagined all this?
