From examiner.com, an article (and issue) which is already starting to show repercussions.
15,000 eBay sellers lost their listing privileges today when eBay instituted a new policy regarding minimum performance standards. According to an email sent from eBay Customer Help to sellers who were experiencing difficulty listing items, eBay has “applied more severe actions (selling blocks and limits) to more sellers than ever in the past. We have moved the worst 15,000 sellers to Seg D (selling block) Issue 181.”
This is the much skewed DSR rating system in action.
According to the principles of ebaY mathematics, this would be a great way to recruit 150 thousand new sellers, since for every seller who leaves, 10 more are ready to take their place.
Still, wouldn’t it have been better to bar entry for bad sellers? Or is that just in the real world? Don’t places put bouncers on the outside?
Does John Donahoe know about this?
No word yet as to whether any of the sellers with higher rank (ei: sweetheart Diamond level sellers with horrendous feedback) are or will be affected.
If one small seller with 200 transactions per year has 1 DSR ding and/or negative review in that time frame, (or even over the course of a decade+) while another big box seller with a bazillion transactions per year causes 1900+ bad buyer experiences, which one is causing the most bad buyer experiences? Which one should be blocked and/or limited, Vs which one will be?
Another thing to consider, with all the fake and stealth accounts for sale, the scammers and ID thieves will be licking their chops, along with various get rich quick on ebaY ebook authors who sell instructions/tutorials on how to get back on ebaY. Or blocked/limited sellers can just cultivate their own.
Those situations of course made possible by ebaY’s other insane rules where they allow members to sign up as many accounts as they want with no limits and no real verification at the gate. Affected sellers wanting to get back on may be slowed or delayed for as long as 5 minutes. Great way to increase membership numbers!?
This is too much to absorb so early in the morning, and with so little caffeine..
Let’s just cut straight to Phase IV:
Hear the tolling of the bells –
Iron bells!
What a world of solemn thought their monody compels!
In the silence of the night,
How we shiver with affright
At the melancholy menace of their tone!
For every sound that floats
From the rust within their throats
Is a groan.
And the people -ah, the people –
They that dwell up in the steeple,
All alone,
And who tolling, tolling, tolling,
In that muffled monotone,
Feel a glory in so rolling
On the human heart a stone –
They are neither man nor woman –
They are neither brute nor human –
They are Ghouls:
And their king it is who tolls;
And he rolls, rolls, rolls,
Rolls
A paean from the bells!
And his merry bosom swells
With the paean of the bells!
And he dances, and he yells;
Keeping time, time, time,
In a sort of Runic rhyme,
To the paean of the bells,
Of the bells –
Keeping time, time, time,
In a sort of Runic rhyme,
To the throbbing of the bells,
Of the bells, bells, bells –
To the sobbing of the bells;
Keeping time, time, time,
As he knells, knells, knells,
In a happy Runic rhyme,
To the rolling of the bells,
Of the bells, bells, bells –
To the tolling of the bells,
Of the bells, bells, bells, bells,
Bells, bells, bells –
To the moaning and the groaning of the bells
But don’t forget, you’re still welcome to buy from ebaY! ;p

Personally I think its just another way for PayPal and Ebay to hold your money in their accounts to make money off of your sales. The longer they hold your money in lieu of payment, the more money they make off on interest. Think about it.. A few million sales a year like this, holding payments for up to 7 ? 14? 21 days, thats a LOT of millions of dollars in interest they earn off of illegally withholding your funds.. This is not about customer service, this is about PROFITS.. We sold something on my Girl Friends account ( the last time we ever tried to sale on ebay) and for no reason, out of no where, they said the funds could be held for up to 45 days to ensure customer satisfaction. We had sold on there several times with no problems, both had accounts for probably 10 years, then all of a sudden we sell something and they decide to hold the money for a MONTH AND A HALF? HELL NO THEY WERE NOT going to get away with that. I re-tracted the sale. Contacted the customer told them how sorry I was about it, and sold my product on Craigslist. No fees. I won’t ever sell anything on there again. It’s a CROCK and its CROOKED AS HELL.. i still say the ONLY REAL REASON they are doing it is for profits. You hold EVERYBODYS MONEY for a week or two off of the tens, if not hundreds of millions of ebay sells, and at the end of the year that could add up to millions? TENS OF MILLIONS of dollars in “INTEREST PROFITS”.. Its should be illegal but we all know NOTHING is illegal these days when you own the government like these big CROOKED CRIMINAL COMPANIES do…!

The bad publicity fallout as these 15,000 tell their friends, family, neighbors, etc. will be interesting to watch. Not to mention the Topix Forums and blogs all over the Net.
August 9, 2013 at 5:23 am
Sad fact though, anyone who actually was a scammer etc will just sign up new or fake/ stealth accounts and ebaY will be 10 times as sleazy as it was. Plenty of time left to cultivate those ebaY ‘sleeper cell’ scam accounts before the big Holiday bloodbath!
Bots which banned them can’t think or feel, and to the management, people are just noise (much like ‘corporations are people’)
But if the noise gets too loud, we’ll see more hyped up PR fluff & puff stuff like maybe Paypal burrowing to the center of the earth to become payment service for hobbits, trolls, munchkins morlocks and time travelers, or maybe lord master Donahoe will have an essay on the importance of gesticulations, or how to do the sidestep?
It’s really in some sort of cannibalism stage at this time imho.
What’s more; they most likely know that behind the sleazy pink curtain. Maybe now they’re just killing people off because that’s how they get their jollies?
August 18, 2013 at 3:36 pm
I posted a comment to a Topix forum but it was zapped within minutes. It wasn’t anything against any forum rules. But the ads to buy fake ebay and paypal accounts have been there for months. That says something.
August 9, 2013 at 5:43 am
Sellers who didn’t get banned might want to consider whether it’s even worth the time, effort and stress. On ebaY you need to run faster and faster just to stay in the same place.
There’s been an awful lots of complaints about no visibility and Cassini. This sheds more light.

Good news ebay sellers! If you werent a victim yet, there is hope. The fluffers, smoothers and shills at ebay have a workaround, for the “honest” sellers.
Simply get a few friends together and list phony auctions to pump each others DSR and feedback up. They are calling it feedback and DSR damage control. Dont worry if its against the rules and fraudulent, its the ebay way.
Besides that the paid posers are trying their best to convince everyone the original blogger is telling big lies. There is no purge. It’s all just made up. Guess those hundreds of people on hobby and other outside forums, youtube who say they got blocked are not being truthful, and we should believe undisclosed paid word of mouth advertisers (paid liars) from ebay forums whos job it is to make ebay look good no matter what.

Very much a good time for the FTC to step in and investigate a lot of corporate actions by ebay against sellers that may not be entirely legal.
August 13, 2013 at 9:39 pm
You betcha! or any other appropriate authoritative bodies.
It seems that ebay’s actions have all been done via deception, misinformation, falsehoods, with a clear purpose, and with malice and forethought.
Without exceptions, they have created or allowed to exist situations or problems which they then conjure solutions for, which benefits their own pocketbooks, while abusing the citizens/members.
They have fortified/girded their mal-actions with anti-class action lawsuit clauses in their ToS, (both ebay and paypal) which arguably contain several other flaws as well. There’s literally no reasonable recourse for people whom have suffered harm and loss due to the bizarre policies, suspicious glitches, conflicting info, reversal of stated policies etc. I should point out that the term to disallow class action lawsuits also overlaps and infringes upon the right to assemble in addition to the 7th amendment.
Furthermore, the ways that ebaY and Paypal’s ToS are so thoroughly intertwined, [the combined effects thereof]… Hardly operating at “arm’s length” man oh man…
There are no White Knights in shining armor coming to save anyone. It’s all on you, abused, affected members.

Sharp legal minds need to scrutinize ebay’s policies and actions since 2008 (when the whole flawed DSR system was introduced to “weed out” small sellers). What amazes me is that this hasn’t gotten more attention from investigative reporters at TV stations. I have urged people to contact the Consumer Affairs Division of the Attorney General’s Office of the state wherein they reside. They will listen to you, they will send you forms to fill out a complaint. I also urge sellers to write letters to the editor of local newspapers, blog online, and post on Topix Forums (www.topix.com).

August 18, 2013 at 3:29 pm
Ebay cheerleader types are telling people how to game the system, or “protect themselves” in their words. The other way besides selling each other sham auctions, feedbacks & DSR stars is to open new seller accounts. Ebay with the left handed seller recruitment play. Hahaha Smells of desperation. What kind of company would do that?
August 18, 2013 at 4:51 pm
I dont like the way ebay sellers are constantly calling buyers scammers. Go to anyplace that ebay sellers chat. All you see is them saying all buyers are scammers? How is it that someone who obeys the rules of the site are doing something wrong? If it’s such a scam, why are they there? Is that a good practice to preemptively call your customers thieves?
Oh nevermind I get it. Ebay is crooked, but not too crooked for the sellers. Buyers are all scam artists, most sellers are also buyers. Geesh, they live in the basement of an outhouse pretending their own sh** doesn’t stink, but they dont even see or smell their own environment
August 21, 2013 at 7:32 pm
Dear ebay sellers,
Sorry but you just noise. You don’t measure up to the impeccable standards of quality service that ebay has always been famous for. That’s why we have revoked your selling privileges in the blink of an eye. We understand your frustration.
You’re still welcome to sign up dozens, if not hundreds of phony seller accounts and start anew. Ebay needs to show growth somehow. Feel free to play along (wink) Ebay doesn’t care. You are also allowed to keep buying, run amok, file chargebacks, SNADs, bash DSRs, and cause chaos in general. Don’t worry about the sellers still there. Ebay has their back, until the next purge. Ebay wants all the buyers, even the bad ones.
But no matter what you do, don’t try to focus any negative media attention at the next ebay seller meetups.
Thank you for choosing ebay.

Anyone seen Ina Steiner’s latest articles Ebay Eliminates Policy Compliance Feature On Seller Dashboard and Ebay Removes Transparency As It Cracks Down on Sellers?
August 26, 2013 at 5:12 am
Yes, everyone has seen them I think. That’s just the sort of thing I refer to above.
BTW, you can post links, although if there are more than 2 it automatically gets flagged as spam and needs approval.
One other thing though, any url’s that end with ‘dot html’ get borked for some reason. ends up replacing the dot with an underscore, sending folks to a 404 page usually. So use tinyurl, bit.ly or what have you for those.
For tweets and youtube vids, just post the url, they self embed.

I hope nobody is surprised by ebaY’s action’s. If you can replace 15,000 sellers with 150,000 sellers, that’s more fee’s to collect from sellers. Is that not good cannibalistic business plan?
November 14, 2013 at 3:36 pm
Not surprised at all, that was the very first thing came to mind. They need to show growth somehow.
Second was this.
” A racket is a service that is fraudulently offered to solve a problem, such as for a problem that does not actually exist, will not be affected, or would not otherwise exist. Conducting a racket is racketeering.[1] Particularly, the potential problem may be caused by the same party that offers to solve it, although that fact may be concealed, with the specific intent to engender continual patronage for this party. A prototype is the protection racket, wherein a person or group indicates that they could protect a store from potential damage, damage that the same person or group would otherwise inflict, while the correlation of threat and protection may be more or less deniably veiled, distinguishing it from the more direct act of extortion.
Racketeering is often associated with organized crime, and the term was coined by the Employers’ Association of Chicago in June 1927 in a statement about the influence of organized crime in the Teamsters union.[2]

Look at the games they are playing with purge victims who want to close their accounts! Sleeeeeezy!!!
Well now this was funny
11-13-2013 10:55 AM
I am one who was removed. I paid off my account balance with eBay right away as they said I had to in order to close my account. (which eBay would not let me close it for a minimum of 3 months. I called the customer service and checked to be sure the amount was correct before paying. After 15 minutes he gave me the amount to pay. Well it was wrong. I over paid. So I just went to get a refund of the overage. I got told they could not refund me unless I signed back up for auto payments between ebay and paypal. OK. Then she tells me that due to the inconvenience I am experiencing she is going to give me a $10 coupon to spend on eBay. So now I am laughing and I said “oh so you kicked me off selling but you will give me $10 to spend.” She seemed upset and wanted to know why I was laughing so hard. Then she tells me that the refund will show in my paypal account within 30 days. WHAT?! If I owe eBay they take in right that second out of my paypal but they owe me so wait 30 days. SO more laughing ensued on my part and she says “Why is this so funny?’ I told her never mind you wouldn’t understand anyway. This is so ridiculous the way the this all works that I am now just laughing and how stupid this all is.

Not only small sellers, but some bigger ones as well. Shooting Star and gold level members are getting the axe nearly every day for the most vague reasons…
Meanwhile we’ve seen some very peculiar stuff going on… Do you remember the Padded Listings Scandal early in the Boycott of 2008? It’s up on the same level with that. Apparently ebaY has a contingency plan to deal with any fallout from the purges too?
